Temario:
OBJECTIVES:
To facilitate an up-to-date and really “hands-on” approach to synaptic plasticity, neurotransmission and neurogenesis, with a focus on experimental, practical Seminars. To foster cooperation among neuroscientists –students and researchers- from the Latin America.
WORKSHOP DIRECTOR AND SYMPOSIUM CHAIRMAN:
Prof. Daniel Rodríguez-Ithurralde (IIBCE)
INTERNATIONAL ADVISORY BOARD:
Profs. Miguel Allende, Francisco Barrantes, Washington Buño, Pablo Castillo, Rafael Linden, Alberto Pereda
PREACTICAL SEMINARS:
(1) “Confocal Microscopy in Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology”;
(2) “Neural bases of perception”;
(3) “Intracelular recordings of goldfish Mauthner cells, in vivo”;
(4) “Receptor mediated plasticity in neuronal
cell cultures”;
(5) “Field and intracellular recordings in sclices of turtle brain cortex”;
(6) “Brain in vivo microdialisis”
LECTURES:
Cell cycle control in neurodevelopment.
Stem Cells and Neurogenesis.
Generation of neuronal polarity.
Mechanisms of dendritic tree development.
Path finding signaling.
How intrinsic properties determine neuron´s role in a circuit.
Dendritic mechanisms of signal processing.
Synaptic transmission modulation.
Efficacy control in electrical synapses.
Receptor-mediated and activity-dependent synaptic plasticity.
Mechanisms of neuronal differentiation and maturation.
Glial roles in development, neurotoxicity and neurodegeneration.
Plasticity and regeneration in trauma, neurotoxicity and neurodegeneration.
LANGUAGE: An operative use of English and Spanish is required.
SELECTION OF STUDENTS:
20 Students (from Latin American countries) will be selected on the basis of their curriculum and their chance of employing the acquired knowledge in their countries. About 8 (eight) foreign students will receive an accommodation and subsistence fellowship plus (if possible) a small contribution to their travel cost. When selected applicants state clearly that they can afford their travel costs, the organization will
assure allocation and subsistences.
The Organizing Committee will communicate, without appeal, its selection to applicants (by E-mail) not later than February 25, 2006.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Application should include:
1) cover letter stating the reasons for the interest in the workshop and how it may contribute to the student future.
2) “Ficha de Inscripción/Registration Card” (request to drit@iibce.edu.uy), with all required data completed.
3) short curriculum vitae (2-9 pp.) with a list of publications, if any.
4) letter of recommendation.
